Caden’s Surgery

Caden’s surgery went well! He was very very sleepy after the surgery and slept all day on Friday. Daniel and I received THOROUGH instructions on all things PEG tube related. He’ll keep the tube in for 8 weeks and then we’ll go back to Dr. Jackson, his GI doctor, and get a more manageable Mic-key button put in place. All his clothes lay funny right now because the tube sticks up about 1-2 inches from his body. You can see a picture of him just after his surgery to the left there. His face is all red because of the tape and the irritation from taping his NG tube.
There were no problems though and he did get hungry last night so I was up every 2-3 hours feeding him about 1-2 oz. each time. That’s all he would take and we couldn’t use the PEG until the morning. He did not like being fed through that tube though and just whimpered and complained all this morning. Which was especially sad considering that he was trying so hard to be happy and was whining and smiling at the same time!
Here are more pictures from his surgery below!

I am so glad the surgery went well. What a cute and brave little kiddo. And I am so happy that you posted about how it went…with pictures and all! We never had to use the PEG Tube. Is there a huge difference with it from the mickey button? I bet he’ll like having that NG tube gone! Is he home yet?

Katie,
The difference is the PEG has a longer tube hanging out of it, and it’s used to establish a channel (for lack of a better phrase) between the outside world and the stomach. The button looks like a nub on an inflatable ball. So it doesn’t stick out as much etc. And yes he came home this afternoon and is doing fine

I’m glad my little peanut came through everything ok. I hope he continues to recover well. Amazing how his after surgery picture looks just like his daddy when he wakes up!!!
Lots of love to you all!!! We miss you. Hugs and kisses to the girls!
